We were invited by PHD students from The University of Southampton to take part in a collaborative project “The Talking River.”
We aimed to create an AI model that read sensors in the water to tell us about the health of the river.
The sensors read the PH, oxygen, dissolved solids, and turbidity (cloudiness) of the water.
Over the course of eight weeks we learned about AI, its uses in conservation, how it works, and how to use it, including how to script an effective prompt.
We demonstrated the model at the Southampton Science and Engineering Festival and we will also show the public at the British Science Festival in September 2026.
